Hi everyone, my name is Bethany Young and I'm from Neenah, WI (about a half an hour away from Green Bay for those of you not from Wisconsin). I went to school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majored in Journalism and Political Science. I've been volunteering for various campaigns since I came to college, for Al Gore in 2000, Howard Dean during the primary season 2004, and precinct leader for MoveOn for Kerry in 2004. I also consider myself to be somewhat of a writer, and my ultimate goal is to get into speech writing.
September 26, 2006 - North Carolina Update
My role in the Heath Shuler for Congress campaign is to organize Buncombe County. Buncombe is by far the most populous of the 15 counties in North Carolina's 11th district, and home to nearly half of the region's residents. I have been mostly focused upon organizing and supervising volunteer canvassing and phone banking, and especially increasing the number of voter contact efforts as we move toward November. I've been trying to learn more about the local party apparatus; I've been contacting precinct chairs and attending their meetings. We've also been working on many exciting events, like the rally with Heath Shuler and former Georgia Senator Max Cleland coming up this Thursday. I will also be working in the next few weeks on an African-American community outreach program. The mountain landscape here is absolutely stunning, and the people I meet every day are warm and welcoming. I hope that I am admirably representing Senator Feingold here in Western North Carolina! |
