My name is Rob Goldsmith.  I grew up in Byron Illinois, a small town just south of Rockford and about two hours northwest of Chicago. I graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha Wisconsin in 2005 with a degree in History. It was at Carthage where I found my love for politics. It all started with an internship with Senator Durbin in Chicago and turned into volunteering on Senator Feingold’s re-election campaign and on his Kenosha Steering Committee. After graduation I took a job as a researcher with Varoga and Rice, a Democratic Party political consulting firm in Oakland California. I have since been in living in California and I am really looking forward to getting the full experience of working on a campaign. I am also really into music; I sing and play the violin and alto sax.

September 27, 2006 - Iowa Update

My experience on the campaign is off to a great start! I have been assigned as a Field Organizer for the Davenport Bettendorf area of Iowa's first congressional district. Democrat Bruce Braley's race for congress against Republican Mike Whalen is one of the top House race in the country. I am in charge of crowd building for any events that are in the Davenport area and for helping to staff and advance Bruce at events that he attends. In particular two big events that we have coming up are a Get-Out-The-Vote rally with special guest Senator Barack Obama and a debate against Mike Whalen. I am in charge of crowd building and visibility for both of these events as well scoping out the sites where each event takes place. In addition the campaign has put me in charge of yard signs for the Davenport area. I have recruited volunteers and created route maps to make sure all yard signs get distributed. Finally, I have been doing a bit of research on the campaign. The campaign has put me in charge of the daily press clips which are sent out to campaign staff. This involves researching both Braley and Whalen in the local newspapers then emailing those stories to the staff.
