Windows Media
Windows Media Player comes standard on every computer that uses
Microsoft Windows. Most videos we use are streaming WMVs, because
this format allows you to start watching the video while it is
downloading.

Quicktime
Quicktime is Apple's video format. It comes installed on all
Macs, and is the preferred format for iPods. It is a free
download, and comes with iTunes, Apple's audio player.

RealPlayer
Realplayer is C-SPAN's preferred player, and all content we link to
on C-SPAN will be in this format. RealPlayer is a free download
for both Windows and Mac OS.

YouTube
YouTube is a viral video website that does not require a media player
to embed video in websites. It's particularly popular for its
compatibility with social networking sites such as MySpace and

Google Video
Like YouTube, Google Video allows users to upload videos and does not
require an external player. You can also download videos in a
